Proud Day For Carey Family and Club

Last Saturday in Thurlus, Cork regained the All-Ireland U21 Football title after a wait of 11 years.

A big following  from Clyda Rovers GAA Club made the journey up to voice our support to the Cork team

And in particular to Ray Carey who played corner back on the cork team. All knew it wasn’t going to be easy

To secure the title, in the second half loais began to take control and a great block from ray when a certain goal seemed on,

Saved Cork from going further behind, with 5 mins to go, all seemed lost until Ballyclough man

Colm O’Neill billowed the net, from there cork got the winning free and held out for victory.

We extend our congratulations to Ray who for the past number of years has put in enormous effort with this

Great U21 team, he became one of the few clyda players in history to bring back an all-Ireland medal to the club.

We wish him every success to him in the future which were sure is a great one.

We all express congratulations to fellow North Cork player Colm O’Neill and Selector Michael Linehan of Killavullen

ON Saturday last in Mourneabbey Community Centre Clyda Rovers GAA Club presented a cheque for €1600 to The Friends of Marymount Hospice, the proceeds of the Clubs St Stephen’s Day Puc Fada.

This is the third year that the puc fada took place with over 60 people taking part.

Past charities who have benefited have been the tsunami relief fund and Bothar.

He praised all the people who took part in the puc fada competition and a great day was had by all. He also gave particular praise to Derry Murphy, who organised the event.

Cait McCarthy of Marymount Hospice thanked Clyda Rovers for picking their charity this year and said the money was going to a very worthy cause.

Derry Murphy, who co-ordinated the puc fada, also remarked “not only was money raised through the puc fada entrance fee, but that there was a collection bucket in his bar, through which customers gave generously”.
